One dead in Highway 93 head-to-head crash with semitruck

An unnidentified man was killed in a head-to-head crash with a semitruck Wednesday night on Highway 53 east of Rathdrum.

A man driving a 2003 Nissan Infiniti crossed over onto the center lane of oncoming traffic and crashed into a semitruck head-on, according to Idaho State Police. The Infiniti immediately burst into flames upon collision and its driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The semitruck driver, Greg Johnson from Grassy Lake, AB, taken taken to Kootenai Health where he was treated and released. Johnson was wearing a seat belt. It is unknown if the deceased driver wore a seat belt.

An unoccupied parked flatbed semitruck was also struck in the crash. Highway 53 was blocked four hours following the 9 p.m. accident as police investigated.
