Idaho man who hid daughters in Nevada mountains sentenced

BOISE – A Boise father who authorities said endangered his two young daughters when he hid them in the Nevada mountains in May was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Idaho Statesman reported 29-year-old Joshua Dundon must serve eight years in prison before he’s eligible for parole after sentencing last week. He pleaded guilty in September to felony custodial interference and infliction of great bodily harm.

Rescuers found the 6-year-old and 7-year-old girls near Eureka, Nevada, about five days after the father disappeared with them. Authorities say the girls had a number of injuries related to exposure.

Dundon’s attorney Gary Davis says his client became paranoid after using methamphetamine for more than a year. Davis says that in Dundon’s mind, he thought he was protecting his daughters by taking them.
