Spokane celebrates the Great American Smokeout on Thursday

Free pizza, and resources to stop smoking, will be available Thursday as Spokane celebrates the Great American Smokeout.

The national event, promoted by the American Cancer Society, aims to help people stop smoking.

In Spokane, David’s Pizza will host an event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a free slice of pizza for anyone who’s stopping smoking. The health district will provide free kits to quit at the event, and city council President Ben Stuckart will speak about his recent effort to quit smoking.

A number of other places around the county will offer free quit kits Thursday as well, including CHAS clinics and many Deaconess and Providence locations. A full list is available at www.srhd.org/gaso.
