Jake Christiansen helps Everett power past the Spokane Chiefs

EVERETT – Jake Christiansen supplied the power when the Everett Silvertips needed it on Friday.

Christiansen assisted on the Silvertips’ first power-play goal of the second period and scored the other during a 4-1 Western Hockey League win over the Spokane Chiefs at XFINITY Arena.

Christiansen’s goal, his first of the season, came at 18 minutes, 15 seconds of the period and gave the Silvertips (12-12-1-1, 26 points) a 3-1 lead.

Everett finished 2 for 5 on power plays while the Chiefs were 0 for 4.

Although the Chiefs (12-9-1-2, 27) peppered Everett goalie Carter Hart with 19 shots in the third period, they couldn’t cash in. The Silvertips’ Patrick Bajkov added an empty-netter with 2:08 left for the final margin.

Hart stopped 34 of the Chiefs’ 35 shots.

Everett struck first, on Sean Richards’ 10th goal of the season, midway through the first period and assisted by Bajkov.

Matt Fonteyne’s power-play goal made it 2-0 Everett at 1:53 of the second. Just 21 seconds later, Spokane’s Milos Fafrak scored his second goal of the season, coming in consecutive games.

But Christiansen, assisted by Bryce Kindopp and Riley Sutter, gave Everett back its two-goal advantage.

The season series is tied at 1.

The Chiefs stand in third place in the U.S. Division, nine points behind first-place Portland the three behind second-place Tri-City.

Spokane will play its next three games at home, starting Saturday against the Regina Pats (13-11-2-0). Saskatoon comes to town on Wednesday.
