Women’s Top 25 capsules: No. 6 Notre Dame women beat No. 3 South Carolina 92-85

Arike Ogunbowale scored 23 points, Jackie Young added 22 and No. 6 Notre Dame beat No. 3 South Carolina 92-85 on Sunday night to take the Gulf Coast Showcase championship in Estero, Florida, and snap the defending national champion Gamecocks’ 17-game winning streak.

Marina Mabrey scored 12 points and Jessica Shepard had 10 for the Irish (6-0), They trailed by 12 points early in the second quarter and then went on a 37-12 run over the next 14 minutes.

A’ja Wilson had a career-best 34 points for South Carolina (6-1), which hadn’t lost since Feb. 19. Alexis Jennings and Doniyah Cliney each scored 12 points for the Gamecocks.

Notre Dame – which trailed 8-0 and 30-18 early – made seven consecutive shots in the second quarter to get back into the game, then had another 7-for-7 stretch early in the fourth.

(13) Florida State 87, Samford 62: Shakayla Thomas scored 29 points and No. 13 Florida State beat Samford in Tallahassee, Florida

Mani Wright and Nausia Woolfolk added 14 points apiece for the Seminoles (6-0), and Ama Degbeon had 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Hannah Nichols scored 20 points for the Bulldogs (2-4).

(15) Maryland 79, Miami 71: Ieshia Small had a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds for her first double and the Terrapins (5-2) held off the Hurricanes (4-2) to win the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament in Coral Gables, Florida.

Kaila Charles added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Terrapins. Mykea Gray had 21 points for Miami.

(16) Duke 79, Presbyterian 45: Rebecca Greenwell hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 points, Lexie Brown added 18 points and the Blue Devils (5-1) rolled to a victory over the Blue Hose (1-5) in Durham, North Carolina.

Leaonna Odom added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils. Greenwell is four 3s from Tricia Liston’s Duke record of 252.

Greenwell had 14 points at the half when Duke shot 50 percent to open a 36-28 lead. The Blue Devils had 10 assists on 14 baskets and half the points came off Presbyterian turnovers.

(17) USF 68, St. John’s 59: Maria Jespersen scored 25 points, and the Bulls (6-1) held on to beat the Red Storm (3-2) in the third-place game at the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Kitija Laksa scored 18 for the Bulls. They shot 48 percent from 3-point range. Andrayah Adams had 15 points for St. John’s.

(19) Texas A&M 90, Texas Tech 56: Chennedy Carter scored a Texas A&M freshman record 30 points, and Danni Williams added 14 points to help the Aggies (4-1) to a win over the Lady Raiders (3-2) in Lubbock, Texas.

Texas A&M scored the opening 10 points, extended it to 26-3 and led by 29 points at the end of the first quarter with a program-record 34 points. Williams is from Clovis, New Mexico.

Brittany Brewer led Texas Tech with 12 points.

(25) Kentucky 69, Marshall 39: Alyssa Rice scored a career-high 19 points and had 10 rebounds for the senior’s first career double-double, and the Wildcats (6-0) used a 20-0 second-quarter run to rout the Thundering Herd (1-4) in Lexington, Kentucky.

Maci Morris added 15 points for Kentucky. Asheika Alexander scored 18 points for Marshall.
