Jessica Olson finished with game highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds Thursday to guide Community Colleges of Spokane to a 57-53 season-opening women’s basketball win over Gonzaga’s club team at Spokane Community College.
Olson finished 9 for 9 from the free-throw line to guide the Sasquatch’s 16-for-19 evening. CCS outscored Gonzaga’s club by 13 points at the line.
Shania Graham hit 3 of 6 on 3-pointers and scored 11 points for the Sasquatch. Shaye Swannack added game highs of six assists and five steals.
Trailing at halftime, CCS took control with a 21-8 third quarter.
The Sasquatch will play at the Everett Holiday Classic next weekend.
Eastern Washington senior forward Chloe Williams and junior midfielder Jenny Chavez were repeat selections to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s All-West Region Team, announced Wednesday.
Williams (Lewis and Clark High), named to the second team, was the first player named Big Sky Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player for three consecutive seasons. She led the Big Sky with 12 goals and 27 points.
Williams wrapped up her career with 44 goals and 109 points.
Chavez made the region third team. She recorded a career-high eight goals and 16 points this season.
EWU lost in double overtime to No. 3 USC at the NCAA Tournament.
