Area roundup: Washington State women’s soccer edges Oregon

Brianna Alger scored in the 20th minute and visiting Washington State (7-3-2, 2-2-0) edged Oregon (6-6-0, 0-4-0) 2-1 in a Pac-12 Conference game on Thursday in Eugene.

Morgan Weaver added a marker in the 32nd minute and Ella Dederick made one save.

The Cougars play at Oregon State on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Washington 0, Oregon State 0: Washington (8-3-2, 1-1-2) outshot host Oregon State (3-6-3, 0-3-1) 19-6 but settled for a 0-0 draw in a Pac-12 Conference game on Thursday in Corvallis, Oregon.

The Huskies put nine shots on goal but was turned away each time by Bella Geist. Washington goalie Sarah Shimer was not forced to make a save.

Washington plays at Oregon on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Men’s soccer

Washington 3, San Diego State 0: Handwalla Bwana scored his sixth goal of the season in the fifth minute and Washington (9-2-0, 2-0-0) shut out visiting San Diego State (4-7-0, 0-3-0) in a Pac-12 Conference game in Seattle.

Kyle Coffee and Blake Bodily added goals for the Huskies and Saif Kerawala made two saves for the clean sheet.

Washington hosts UCLA on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Volleyball

Gonzaga 3, Pepperdine 2: Jenna Kuehn had a triple-double with 11 kills, 20 assists and 14 digs and Gonzaga (10-7, 5-0) outlasted visiting Pepperdine (11-7, 3-2) in five sets (22-25, 28-26, 19-25, 25-22, 15-10) in a West Coast Conference match.

Five Zags had double-digit kills including Alyce Whitaker with 13, while Sarah Penner, Chapin Gray and Payton Mack each added 12.

Gonzaga hosts Loyola Marymount on Saturday at noon.

Eastern Washington 3, Northern Arizona 0: Ashley Seiler had 17 kills with 13 digs and visiting Eastern Washington (6-8, 3-2) topped Northern Arizona (6-10, 2-3) in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) in a Big Sky Conference match in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Regan Harr had 26 assists with 12 digs while Catelyn Linke and Taylor Larsen added 10 kills apiece.

Eastern plays at Southern Utah on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Idaho at Southern Utah: Kaela Straw had 22 kills and Idaho (9-7, 4-1) beat Southern Utah (5-12, 0-5) in four sets (21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-22) in a Big Sky Conference match in Cedar City, Utah.

Haylee Mathis handed out 55 assists while Alycia Wodke had 21 digs.

Idaho plays at Northern Arizona on Saturday at noon.
