Searchers discover body of man lost in Fernan Lake

COEUR d’ALENE — The body of a Spokane man whose small boat capsized Tuesday in Fernan Lake has been found, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office’s dive team found the body of Jesse A. Bishop, 60, in “about 5 to 7 feet” of water around 4:15 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.

Around 5:10 a.m Tuesday, a Sheriff’s Office’s rescue team responded to a call about a drowning after a 10-foot aluminum boat occupied by Bishop, a Spokane man, and 19-year-old Nathaniel C. Storch overturned.

Storch, who was wearing a life jacket, was able to swim to shore. Bishop wasn’t wearing a life jacket, according to the Sheriff’s Office

The search was slowed because of weeds in the area, the Sheriff’s Office said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine Bishop’s cause of death. The investigation is still active.

Bishop was a musician in Spokane and was a member of such bands as The Edge and Wolfgang.

“R.I.P. Jesse Bishop. This week has hurt the music community deep into our souls. Heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family and friends,” M&M Promotions posted on Facebook.
