Area roundup: Eastern Washington remains undefeated in Big Sky women’s soccer

Eastern Washington shut out Northern Colorado 2-0 on Sunday in Greeley, Colorado, keeping the Eagles undefeated in Big Sky Conference women’s soccer.

Saige Lyons opened the scoring in the 60th minute and Jenny Chavez followed 10 minutes later for the Eagles (10-4-1, 4-0-1 Big Sky). Northern Colorado fell to 9-6, 3-3.

Idaho 2, North Dakota 1: The Vandals (5-7-2, 1-3-1) defeated the Fighting Hawks (4-7-3, 2-4-0) for their first Big Sky win of the season.

Taylor Brust and Myah Merino scored for Idaho.

Oregon State 1, Washington State 0: Despite a dominating performance and control of the stat sheet, the Washington State Cougars (7-4-2, 2-3-0) could not find the back of the net before eventually falling to Oregon State (4-6-3, 1-3-1), 1-0, in double overtime in a Pac-12 match in Corvallis, Oregon.

Santa Clara 2, Gonzaga 1: The Broncos (8-6-1, 3-1-0 WCC) scored in the 37th minute and 56th minute to build a two-goal lead and held on to defeat the Bulldogs (10-3-1, 2-2-0) in Spokane.

Callie Best scored her fifth goal of the season for Gonzaga.

Volleyball

The Washington State volleyball team (13-5 overall, 2-4 in Pac-12) battled the No. 15 Utah Utes (14-3, 5-1) in four sets but could not grab the win in Bohler Gym, falling 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21.

Taylor Mims’ double-double led the Cougars with 14 kills and 12 digs and she had six blocks. Jocelyn Urias had 11 kills with only one error in 23 attacks for a .435 hitting percentage. She had a match-high eight blocks, equaling her career high.
