Coeur d’Alene police investigating anonymous death threat against Lake City High School student

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is investigating an anonymous death threat made against a female Lake City High School student.

Police said in a news release that the female received the threat via social media after refusing to send a nude photograph to an anonymous person. The threat said the person would shoot the female at school Monday if she didn’t comply.

The perpetrator apparently chose social media apps that would hide his or her identity, police said. They still are working to identify the suspect.

Coeur d’Alene School District administrators have been notified and are working in conjunction with law enforcement, police said. Additional police officers will patrol area school, including Lake City.

Deanna Clifford, principal of Lake City High School, said in a news release that she will meet throughout the day with parents who have any concerns.

Scott Maben, spokesman for the Coeur d’Alene School District, said the threat doesn’t appear to be related to an incident on Friday, when a student posted a picture of a gun on social media. He said police determined then that the post was not a threat.

“But because parents were aware of that, there is a lot concern out there through the weekend, and with this new one, it seems like a heightened level of awareness and concern,” he said.

He said administrators understand if parents aren’t comfortable sending their students to class. The school’s front doors will be locked and teachers will have their classroom doors closed throughout the day.

“We wouldn’t be opened if we felt there was an imminent threat of violence,” he said.

Police ask anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Coeur d’Alene Police Department at (208) 769-2320. Anyone who provides tips can remain anonymous.
