Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man suspected of tying up and assaulting a woman.

The woman apparently arrived at a hospital around the same time deputies found a video of her being tied up and assaulted on the suspect’s phone during a search of his abandoned car Monday night. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The man, identified as 48-year-old Daniel Johnson by deputies, apparently abandoned his car at around midnight Monday night after driving past deputies stopped on Adams Street and Broadway Avenue, according to a sheriff’s office news release. After fleeing from the area, deputies located Johnson’s Chrysler Sebring in an alleyway near the 14600 block of E. Broadway Avenue.

The vehicle wasn’t reported stolen, but deputies noticed a pump-action shotgun sitting in the front passenger seat, and what appeared to be blood and a cellphone on the ground by the driver’s side door, deputies said. Believing someone could be shot or injured, they searched the unlocked phone, where they found a video of a woman who appeared to be tied up against her will and being assaulted.

Deputies began searching the area, looking for the woman, and notified local hospitals. One hospital reported to deputies a female who appeared to have been assaulted and shot who checked herself in. Detectives learned her injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.

The woman told investigators Johnson is her boyfriend. He is currently wanted for first-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment. He has a lengthy criminal history, including burglary and car theft.

Johnson is described as a white male, about 6-foot-2, with a medium build, and short red hair and blue eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
