Spokane Valley car crash ignites natural gas, setting fire to car, nearby home

A car crashed into a gas meter Wednesday night in Spokane Valley, igniting escaped natural gas in a blaze that spread to a vehicle and a nearby home.

Spokane Valley firefighters responded to the incident at about 8 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Fox Road, firefighters wrote in a news release. The fires were quickly extinguished and the gas meter closed.

Four people were inside the house at the time of the fire, but were able to quickly evacuate, firefighters said. A dog was found and rescued inside the home.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters said the cause of the crash was still under investigation.
