College golf: Gonzaga’s Ganz takes fifth at Pinetree

Gonzaga’s David Ganz finished in a three-way tie for fifth place at even-par 144 to lead the Zags to a tie for sixth place in the 11-team Pinetree CC Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia, on Tuesday.

Gonzaga finished the two-round tournament at 22 over. Southern Illinois, led by medalist Peyton Wilhoit at 7-under 137, took the team title at 7 over.

Women’s golf

Valeria Patino led Idaho at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek GC, finishing three rounds at 4-under 212 to end in a three-way tie for sixth place. Idaho placed fourth in the 16-team event at 2 under. UNLV, led by individual winner Elizabeth Prior at 16-under 200, took the team title at 17 under.

Because of injuries, Gonzaga’s golfers competed as individuals with Jessica Mangrobang the top Zag at 15 over.

Alivia Brown finished in a five-way tie for 15th with a two-round total of 2-over 148 to lead Washington State to an eighth-place finish in the Nanea Pac-12 Preview at Nanea GC in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

Andrea Lee of Stanford was the medalist at 9-under 137. UCLA won the team title at 20 under. WSU was at 18 over.

The tournament was shortened by a round because of weather conditions.

Women’s soccer

Chloe Williams of Eastern Washington was chosen Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week after setting the conference’s all-time scoring record on Friday against Idaho State.

Her 40th career goal in that match broke the record set by Amanda Ellsworth of Idaho State (2011-2014). EWU beat Idaho State 4-2 en route to its first regular-season championship since 2004.

Sunday, Williams added two more goals in a 2-1 win over Weber State.
