Judge orders 2 men charged in man’s death to stand trial

MOSCOW – An Idaho judge has ordered two men to stand trial on charges related to the death of an 18-year-old man on a camping trip in July.

Matthew McKetta, 18, and Keagan Tennant, 17, were arrested in northern Washington following the death of Timothy Reeves. Authorities said Tennant shot Reeves while they were camping in northern Idaho, and he with McKetta’s help attempted to dispose of the body and hide the evidence, the Moscow-Pullman Daily News reported .

Authorities said the two also robbed a pizza delivery man at gunpoint in Moscow, Idaho, before fleeing the state.

Tennant was charged with seven felonies including involuntary manslaughter, attempted murder and destroying evidence. McKetta was charged with five felonies that included robbery, failure to notify authorities of a death and destroying evidence.

At the preliminary hearing on Thursday, 17-year-old Zacaria Worl provided testimony. Worl was among the five people who were on the July camping trip, and Worl said Reeves and Tenant were dry firing guns aimed at each other. Reeves was holding a pistol as Tennant was holding a rifle, he said.

Authorities with the Latah County Sheriff’s Office said the guns and ammunition were taken by McKetta from his home without his father’s permission.

Worl said he heard a gun fire and he looked up and saw Reeves fall backward. He said Tennant and McKetta then hid the body in the brush, and they concealed the rifle and ammunition under an abandoned cabin.

Deborah McCormick, the public defender representing Tennant, didn’t return a call from the Associated Press on Friday.
