Volleyball roundup: Lake City advances to semifinals of Idaho 5A Tournament

Lake City advanced to the semifinals of the Idaho 5A State Tournament with two straight wins over Rocky Mountain and Madison. The Trojans face Bonneville tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Coeur d’ Alene HS.

Eagle 3, Post Falls 2: Mackenzie Morris had 14 kills for Post Falls, but Eagle edged the Trojans in five sets (25-17, 28-26, 23-25, 22-25, 15-7) in the first round of the Idaho 5A state tournament. Kayla Mayo dished out 25 assists for the Trojans. Post Falls moves to the consolation bracket to play Centennial.

Post Falls 3, Centennial 0: Allison Monday and Sydney Parks each notched 10 kills with four blocks and Post Falls rolled past Centennial in three sets (25-4, 25-20, 25-11) in the first round of the Idaho 5A state tournament consolation bracket. Post Falls advances to play Madison.

Madison 3, Post Falls 2: Allison Munday had 20 kills, but Post Falls fell to Madison in five sets (16-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13) in the second round of the Idaho 5A state tournament consolation bracket. Tessa Sarff added six blocks for the Trojans. Post Falls was eliminated from the state tournament with the loss.

Idaho 4A State

Moscow 3, Preston 0: The Bears swept Preston (25-13, 25-20, 25-18) at Post Falls HS in the opening round of the Idaho 4A State Tournament, but dropped their next two games against Twin Falls and Burley to be eliminated from the postseason.

Idaho 3A State

Kimberly 3, Timberlake 0: McKeeley Tonkin had five kills with 14 assists and Timberlake lost in the first round of Idaho 3A State Tournament in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-20). Kenzie Dean nailed 10 kills and eight digs for Timberlake. With the loss, Timberlake will play Homedale next in the consolation bracket.

Timberlake 3, Homedale 2: McKelley Tonkin dished out 35 assists with 10 digs and Timberlake defeated Homedale in five sets (25-12, 25-22, 23-25, 28-26, 17-15) in the second round of the Idaho 3A State tournament consolation bracket. Kenzie Dean added 23 kills and four digs for Timberlake. With the victory, Timberlake advances to the next round of the consolation bracket to play Bonners Ferry.

Timberlake 3, Bonners Ferry 2: Kenzie Dean recorded 11 kills with nine digs and Timberlake defeated Bonners Ferry in five sets (25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 22-25, 15-10) in the semifinals of the Idaho 3A State Tournament consolation bracket. McKelley Tonkin dished out 25 assists with two service aces, while Kendall Lindley had seven kills and two service aces. Timberlake advances to the finals of the consolation bracket against Kimberly on Saturday at Lake City HS.

Bonners Ferry 3, Snake River 1: Bonners Ferry advanced to the second round of the Idaho 3A State Tournament with a win over Snake River before losing its next two matches against Sugar-Salem and Timberlake. The Badgers were eliminated from postseason contention.

Idaho 2A State

Melba 3, St. Maries 0: St. Maries lost its first two games in the Idaho 2A State Tournament against Melba and West Side at Lakeland HS. The Lumberjacks were eliminated from postseason contention.

Northeast 1B

Selkirk 3, Northport 0: Whitney Dawson notched 12 kills and Selkirk (14-1) rolled past the Mustangs (9-6) in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-23) to clinch the top seed in the Northeast 1B league. Hailey Young recorded nine kills, seven service aces and eight digs for the Mustangs.
