Former Washington defensive end Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, who graduated from the program in 2009 as the Huskies’ all-time sack leader, has died at age 30, according to a report from KITV-ABC in Honolulu.

Details of his death are not immediately known.

Te’o-Nesheim, born in American Samoa, attended Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela, Hawaii, and returned this year as the school’s head coach.

Teammates voted Te’o-Nesheim the Huskies’ defensive MVP during his sophomore season in 2007, when he led the team in tackles for loss (15.0) and sacks (8.5). He was a team captain during his final two seasons in 2008-09 and was twice presented UW’s L. Wait Rising Lineman of the Year award.

His 30 career sacks from 2006-09 still rank second on the Huskies’ all-time list, behind Hau’oli Kikaha (36).

Te’o-Nesheim was a third-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and played four seasons in the NFL, the final three with Tampa Bay. He had his best season in 2012, starting 14 games and posting 4.0 sacks.

Both NFL organizations confirmed his passing.
