Compounded medications

I would like to thank our representative, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, for her steadfast support of patients who require compounded medications and the compounding pharmacies who make access to these medications possible. Compounding pharmacies help patients with specific medication needs that are either unavailable commercially or where the patient is unable to take the commercially available version due to adverse reactions or dosage requirements.

In the wake of the tragedy surrounding the New England Compounding Center, Congress enacted legislation that balanced patient safety and accessibility to these needed medications. Unfortunately, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is moving forward with policies that threaten patient access to vital medications. I commend Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers for co-sponsoring H.R. 2871, the Preserving Patient Access to Compounded Medications Act, and her recent vote in support of an amendment to appropriations legislation as both measures are aimed at ensuring FDA acts in accordance with the intent of the laws passed by Congress.
