No Boise State bobbleheads this year after 10-year run

BOISE, Idaho – An Idaho company that has been producing bobbleheads of Boise State University players and coaches for about a decade says there will be no bobbleheads this year.

The Idaho Statesman reports that Meridian, Idaho,-based Jackson Food Stores is ending the run for now after releasing 40 Boise State bobbleheads from 2006 to 2016.

“We feel like bobbleheads, as a whole, has become less of a desirable item,” said Katrina Lemmon, advertising and promotions manager for Jacksons.

She declined to release sales numbers.

She said some bobbleheads were more popular than others. The company produced a bobblehead of quarterback Kellen Moore in 2012 that caused fans to line up for the chance to buy one. Moore now plays for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL.

Last year, the bobbleheads sold for $12 each or $8 with the purchase of two 20-ounce Coke products.

The company usually released three to five bobbleheads a season, which one year included mascot Buster Bronco.

Last year, the company released just one. That was of legendary former coach Lyle Smith who went on to become the school’s athletic director and died earlier this year at age 101.

Lemmon says the company has no immediate plans to release BSU bobbleheads in the future but wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

“I don’t want to presume what the future holds,” Lemmon said. “You never know.”

She said Jackson will attempt to engage Boise State fans this season with a marketing giveaway called The Ultimate Game Day Experience that includes a grand prize with four game tickets and a hotel suite for four.
