S-R in the silo

The Aug. 20 S-R editorial, “Variety of views remains our mission,” suggests that the “Opinion section is meant to reflect a variety of viewpoints” and further, the editorial board urges people to “venture outside the silo.”

The published historical evidence suggests that nothing could be further from the truth.

The S-R parades a constant lineup of syndicated liberals on a daily basis. All the while, they intersperse the columns of their “alt-left” internal corporate pit bull, Shawn Vestal. In addition, the news wire articles they select for print are overwhelmingly slanted against local, state and national Republicans, Mr. Trump, his wife and family.

Despite the conservative demographics of Spokane County, the S-R continues to pursue an obvious agenda of secular liberalism, excessive environmentalism, political correctness, and is sadly, socialistic and anti-business.

The editorial staff at the S-R needs to first look in their own mirror before they propose a narrative of understanding among their readership. Dial back the liberalism, increase conservative columnists, and truly offer, as you write, a “variety of viewpoints”. Only then can you claim to have “ventured outside the silo”.
