College soccer: CC Spokane men romp; CCS, NIC women win
Hector Magana tallied two goals and an assist and Jesus Meraz-Rodriguez added a pair of goals to send the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (4-1-1, 1-0) to a 5-1 victory over the Wenatchee Valley Knights (1-3, 0-2) in a Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer match at Spokane Falls Community College on Wednesday.
Meraz-Rodriguez scored off an assist from Chase Reidt to give the Sasquatch the lead for good just 53 seconds into the match. Back-to-back goals by Magana – at 5:36 and 8:32 – stretched the lead to 3-0. Nick Frost found the net in the 38th minute to put CCS up 4-0 at halftime.
Meraz-Rodriguez capped the scoring with a goal at 80:46. Megana picked up an assist on the score.
Women’s soccer
Sabrina Castaneda, Molly Thies and Emma Hartwig each scored goals over an 8-minute, 20-second span of the first half and the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (3-2, 1-0) breezed to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Wenatchee Valley Knights (2-3-1, 0-2) in a NWAC match.
– An own goal in the 49th minute was the only scoring in the match as the North Idaho Cardinals (3-2-1, 1-0-1) defeated the visiting Yakima Valley Yaks (2-1-2, 0-1) in NWAC action.
