Former Gonzaga Bulldog guard Kyle Bankhead has joined UNC Greensboro’s staff as director of basketball operations.

Bankhead spent the last two seasons as head coach at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas. Bankhead assisted at San Diego under former Zag assistant Billy Grier from 2007-15.

Bankhead played in 121 games, averaged 5.6 points and made 45 percent of his 3-point attempts at Gonzaga from 2001-04.

GU adds walk-on Martin

Alex Martin, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard, has joined Gonzaga’s basketball roster as a walk-on.

Martin played for Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, last season. He averaged 4.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game. Martin redshirted at Belmont two years ago.

Zags on ESPN

The West Coast Conference announced that at least 36 men’s basketball games involving WCC schools will air nationally on ESPN Networks this season, including the 2018 WCC Championship in Las Vegas.

The WCC’s national package is highlighted by a pair of clashes between 2017 NCAA National Runner-Up and defending regular season champion Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. The Bulldogs and Gaels squared off in the WCC title game for the second consecutive year and the seventh time since 2009.

Gonzaga will make 16 total ESPN appearances while Saint Mary’s will play 11 games on the networks.
