Spokane Chiefs complete big comeback to beat Kootenay in overtime

CRANBROOK, B.C. – Rykr Cole scored with a slapshot in overtime and the Spokane Chiefs (3-0) rallied from four goals down to beat the Kootenay Ice 6-5 in Western Hockey League action at Western Financial Place on Friday.

Riley Woods sent the game to overtime with a rebound goal with 30 seconds left in regulation.

The Ice built a 4-0 lead midway through the second period. Spokane’s Ty Smith stemmed the tide with a power play marker just under 3 minutes left in the second and Riley McKay made it 4-2 early in the third.

The Ice restored a three-goal lead, but Spokane answered with two more third-period goals: Jaret Anderson-Dolan went far post at 14:45 in his first game returned from Los Angeles Kings preseason and Woods’ tying goal at 19:30.

Transaction: Chiefs announced forward Adam Beckman and goaltender Declan Hobbs have been released from the team’s active roster. Both will remain on Spokane’s 50-player protected list. Beckman, 16, is expected to return to the Battleford Stars of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League, while Hobbs, 19, is expected to return to the Nipawin Hawks of the SJHL.
