Education notebook: Linwood Elementary’s Naccarato-Keele named principal of year

Linwood Elementary School Principal Gina Naccarato-Keele was named the Washington State Elementary Principal of the Year by the Association of Washington School Principals.

Nacarato-Keele was honored for her commitment to academic and social programs that provide opportunities for students, especially those subject to considerable hardships outside of school.

In fall 2017, Naccarato-Keele was named the district’s Distinguished Principal of the Year.

CVSD honors firefighter Scott Niebuhr

Spokane Valley firefighter Scott Niebuhr received in March the 2018 Meritorious Service Award from Central Valley School District. In the fall, Niebuhr headed Operation WARM, a coat drive that provided 250 new winter coats to CVSD elementary students and another 50 to other children in Spokane Valley.

EVHS Band’s plant sale underway

East Valley High School Band has begun its 21st annual plant sale. Order forms can be found at EVSD.org and must be mailed by April 12. Plants will be available to pick up at the high school on May 5.

WV dance team second at state

West Valley High School Dance Team, the Lady Eagles, finished second at the state competition in Yakima. The team was led by adviser Jodee Cahalan.

CVSD seeks to fill boundary committee

Central Valley School District is now accepting applications for the Boundary Review Committee. The committee will oversee the revision of all middle school boundaries as construction for a new middle school begins in the fall of 2019. To apply, visit CVSD.org before Monday.

Music-arts grant offered; apply by June 30

A new music and arts grant is available to Washington schools. Sponsored by California Casualty, K-12 schools can apply for up to $500 to arts programs that have suffered under budget constraints. Applicants must be, or have been referred by, current members of the Washington Education Association. The deadline is June 30 with grants awarded in September
