Gonzaga’s Josh Perkins earns scholar-athlete award

Gonzaga junior point guard Josh Perkins was selected to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association’s Scholar-Athlete team.

Perkins, who is finishing up his Sport Management degree, carries a 3.26 grade-point average and has been named Academic All-WCC the last two years. The Park Hill, Colorado, native averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 assists last season.

UNC Asheville’s Kevin Vannatta, who has a 3.9 GPA, was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an award won by Gonzaga’s Nigel Williams-Goss in 2017.

Perkins was joined on the team by Vannatta, College of Charleston’s Evan Bailey, Hofstra’s Rokas Gustys, Oral Roberts’ Albert Owens, UMBC’s Joseph Sherburne, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Kareem South, NJIT’s Reilly Walsh and Loyola of Chicago’s Clayton Cluster and Ben Richardson.
