N. Idaho man enters pleas following fatal collision

Associated Press

SANDPOINT – A northern Idaho man charged with killing a Mead woman and injuring an Idaho woman after hitting the two with his pickup as they walked along a road in Sandpoint has entered pleas.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reported that 24-year-old Peter Goullette entered Alford pleas on Friday to felony manslaughter and misdemeanor reckless driving.

In an Alford plea, a person doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a likely conviction.

Police said 61-year-old Katherine Stelzer of Mead died after being hit by Goullette in June 2016. Zualita Updike of Clark Fork, Idaho, was injured.

Goullette faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing in June.

In a separate case involving a home invasion, Goullette pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and witness intimidation.
