Softball roundup: Katelyn Strauss’ first career home run helps Ferris top Rogers; Saxons win first game of season

Freshman Katelyn Strauss belted her first career home run and Ferris (1-13, 1-12) downed visiting Rogers (7-7, 6-7) 11-5 in a Greater Spokane League game on Tuesday.

University 8, Gonzaga Prep 3: Sierra Apodaca went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and the Titans (10-5, 10-3) defeated the Bullpups (5-9, 4-8). Gonzaga Prep’s Sarah Tweedy went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Mt. Spokane 4, Shadle Park 2: Alli Schuerman went 2 for 3 with a double and hit a two-run single in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead, and the Wildcats (12-3, 11-2) defeated the Highlanders (5-9, 5-8). Ariel Hall of Shadle Park finished 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Central Valley 4, Lewis and Clark 1: Kelsey Gumm scattered six hits, struck out 13, and the Bears (13-0, 12-0) downed the visiting Tigers (6-9, 5-8).

Mead 16, North Central 14: Destiny Scott hit a walk-off two-run home run to cap a furious comeback and the Panthers (9-6, 9-4) edged the visiting Indians (1-14, 1-12).

Great Northern League

Cheney 5, Clarkston 2: Logan Krantz hit a home run and the visiting Blackhawks (13-1, 6-1) beat the Bantams (2-11, 1-7).

Northeast A

Colville 14, Riverside 1: Rylee Merritt went 4 for 4 on her birthday with three RBIs and two runs and the Indians (8-4, 5-3) defeated the visiting Rams (2-11, 1-8).

Lakeside 20, Newport 2: Katelynn Clark had two doubles while driving in two runs and the visiting Eagles (9-5, 6-2) beat the Grizzlies (0-7, 0-6). Megan Isayer struck out five, allowing two runs for Newport.

Chewelah 13, Freeman 3 (Gm 1): Jamie Eide rapped out four hits for five RBIs and the Cougars (13-0, 7-0) beat the visiting Scotties (4-5, 3-4).

Chewelah 17, Freeman 5 (Gm 2): Abby Fuller doubled and homered, driving in four runs, and the visiting Cougars (14-0, 8-0) downed the Scotties (4-6, 3-5).

Deer Park 7, Medical Lake 3: Jaylee Lane took a shutout into the seventh, adding three hits and two RBIs, and the visiting Stags (9-4, 6-2) held off the Cardinals (4-8, 3-6).

Northeast 2B

Kettle Falls 12, Wilbur-Creston 0 (Gm 1): Jocelyn Glover tossed a no-hitter while striking out five and the Bulldogs (8-8, 5-2) beat the visiting Wildcats (3-10, 0-7).

Kettle Falls 9, Wilbur-Creston 5 (Gm 2): Meagan Hippler hit a three-run home run and the Bulldogs (9-8, 6-2) beat the visiting Wildcats (3-11, 0-8).

Northwest Christian 9, Colfax 5 (Gm 1): Mattea Nelson struck out 10 batters and the Crusaders (16-0, 9-0) beat the visiting Bulldogs (11-3, 10-2). Jordan Rabe hit a two-run home run for Northwest Christian.

Northwest Christian 12, Colfax 2 (Gm 2): Alison Shaler had nine strikeouts and the Crusaders (17-0, 10-0) beat the visiting Bulldogs (11-4, 10-3). Abbie Miller slugged a two-run home run for Colfax.

Northeast 1B

Cusick 12, Curlew 10 (Gm 1): Taylor Allen had two hits, including a double, and the visiting Panthers (2-7, 1-7) defeated the Cougars (4-11, 4-9).

Curlew 5, Cusick 3 (Gm 2): Korin Baker and Allena Goree both went 2 for 3, scoring five runs total, and the Cougars (4-11, 4-9) beat the visiting Panthers (2-7, 1-7).

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 10, Inchelium 5 (Gm 1): Sarah Bradshaw struck out nine hitters and added two hits with two RBIs and the Warriors (13-0, 8-0) defeated the visiting Hornets (10-4, 9-2).

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 11, Inchelium 1 (Gm 2): Tiffany Boutain notched two hits, three runs and two RBIs and the Warriors (14-0, 9-0) downed the visiting Hornets (10-5, 9-3).

Colton 11, Touchet 4 (Gm 1): Emily Schultheis tossed a three-hitter, adding a three-run double, and the Wildcats (10-1, 4-0) downed the visiting Indians (4-7, 2-5).

Colton 13, Touchet 3 (Gm 2): Rylee Vining drove in five runs and the Wildcats (11-1, 5-0) raced past the visiting Indians (4-8, 2-6).

Post Falls 1, Lewiston 0 (Gm 1): Bubba Gleaves went 3 for 3 with two doubles and the visiting Trojans (7-8, 2-5) beat the Bengals (9-6, 2-5).

Lewiston 12, Post Falls 5 (Gm 2): J.House went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and the Bengals (10-6, 3-5) beat the visiting Trojans (7-9, 2-6).
