Area roundup: Seattle U. baseball rallies past Washington State 4-3

Cameron Sterne had two RBIs, including the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth, and Seattle University rallied to defeat Washington State 4-3 Wednesday in a nonleague game in Bellevue.

The Redhawks (27-11) trailed 3-1 but tied the game in the seventh without the benefit of a hit.

Ryan Ramsower had a two-run double and Blake Clanton added an RBI single for the Cougars (13-21).

CC Spokane 9-11, Wenatchee Valley 1-3: Christian Padilla batted 3 for 3 with a home run and five runs as the Sasquatch routed the Knights to start a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader in Wenatchee.

Brayden Olson added four hits for CCS.

In the second game, Aaron Fritts, Jermaine Ducham and Mitch Dean notched three hits apiece to fuel another CCS rout.

Ducham, Dean, Olson and Levi Brenneman each totaled two RBIs for the Sasquatch (27-9, 14-4 NWAC). Austin Earl had four hits for WVC (20-16, 7-11).

Softball

Kennedy Anderson and Ashlyn Winn both homered, and North Idaho routed Community Colleges of Spokane 15-1 to open an NWAC doubleheader at Spokane Falls Coummnity College.

Madi Mott earned the win for the Cardinals and also notched two hits.

In the second game, Wynn led a home-run barrage with a pair of long balls in a 17-3 Cardinals victory.

Kayla Curtan, Kalyna Korok and Jori Kerr also homered for NIC (35-3, 20-2).

Jaqueline Adams hit a three-run homer for the Sasquatch (15-15, 9-13).

Men’s golf

Southern California’s Justin Suh shot a final-round 71 for a 268 to win the Pac-12 men’s championship at Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates, California.

The Trojans also won the team title by four strokes over Colorado.

Zach Anderson shot 275 to help Washington State finish seventh. Teammates Derek Bailey, AJ Armstron and Grant Cole all tied for 23rd at 283.

Washington’s Carl Yuan was one of three golfers who tied for second at 272.

Women’s golf

Ten Pac-12 teams were selected to compete in the NCAA Regionals, which take place May 7-9.

Conference champion UCLA earned the top seed in the San Francisco Regional, while Washington will be the No. 4 seed in the Tallahassee, Florida, Regional.

Washington State’s Alivia Brown was chosen to compete as an individual at the San Francisco Regional. This will be the Cougar senior’s third trip to the Regionals.

Women’s tennis

No. 8 seed Washington knocked off ninth-seeded Colorado 4-1 in the opening round of the Pac-12 women’s championships in Ojai, California. Washington will face top seed Stanford on Thursday.

Washington State, the No. 5 seed, will begin tournament play against No. 4 California on Thursday.
