Baseball roundup: Mead’s Mason Wells’ complete game with seven strikeouts shuts down Gonzaga Prep

Mason Wells pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, allowing only three hits and one earned run, and Mead (13-6, 12-6) defeated visiting Gonzaga Prep (15-5, 14-4) 4-2 on Friday in a Greater Spokane League game.

Mead is four games behind Mt. Spokane for first place while Gonzaga Prep is two games back.

Mt. Spokane 11, North Central 0: Tyler Staley homered and singled with two RBIs and the visiting Wildcats (17-3, 16-2) blanked the Indians (7-13, 6-12).

Shadle Park 8, Rogers 3: Brock Leinweber went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs and the Highlanders (11-9, 10-8) beat the visiting Pirates (3-17, 2-16). Blake Wells pitched six strong innings for Shadle.

University 11, Lewis and Clark 7: Scott Hawley scored once and drove in three runs and the visiting Titans (5-15, 4-15) downed the Tigers (6-15, 5-14) at Avista Stadium.

Central Valley 3, Ferris 1: Thomas Edwards pitched a complete game with five strikeouts, had a double and an RBI at the plate, and the Bears (14-6, 12-6) defeated the visiting Saxons (11-9, 10-8).

Great Northern League

West Valley 8, East Valley 2 (Gm 1): Blake Transue went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and the visiting Eagles (10-9, 6-5) beat the Knights (1-17, 1-9). Spencer Shipman had a two-run homer for West Valley.

East Valley 8, West Valley 7 (Gm 2): Ethan Hawes and Cameron Gross each had a double in the bottom of the seventh to overtake West Valley and the Knights (2-17, 2-9) defeated the visiting Eagles (10-10, 6-6).

Northeast A

Deer Park 16, Medical Lake 0: Bennet Lim slugged an inside-the-park home run and the visiting Stags (9-5, 6-4) blanked the Cardinals (3-12, 1-9). Deer Park’s Trayton Bird had four RBIs.

Chewelah 5, Freeman 3: Pearson Grooms slapped a two-run double in the eight inning and the Cougars (13-3, 9-1) outlasted the Scotties (14-3, 8-1). Johnny Larson’s two-run seventh inning single for Chewelah sent the game to extra innings.

Lakeside 10, Newport 6: Ben Pointer went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and the visiting Eagles (5-11, 4-4) beat the Grizzlies (1-10, 0-0).

Northeast 2B

Colfax 7, St. George’s 4: Parker Huber tossed six strikeouts in four innings, had a double and a homer from the plate, and the visiting Bulldogs (17-4, 9-2) beat the Dragons (15-4, 11-1).

Wilbur-Creston 8, Springdale 5: Jason Townsend went 3 for 4 with a double and three stolen bases, and the visiting Wildcats (10-11, 7-9) defeated the Chargers (6-13, 4-9).

Lake City 14, Post Falls 4 (Gm 1): Kodie Kolden went 5 for 5 with four runs, three RBIs and a double, and the Timberwolves (17-2, 8-2) defeated the visiting Trojans (7-10, 4-6).
