Coeur d’Alene Little League advances to regional final with win over Oregon

Braeden Newby struck out eight over four innings and Coeur d’Alene beat Oregon (Beaverton) 8-3 in a Little League World Series Northwest Region semifinal at Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino, California, on Friday.

Coeur d’Alene (3-1) advances to face Montana (Boulder Arrowhead) in the championship game on Saturday at noon. The game will be televised live on ESPN. Montana (2-0) beat Idaho 5-2 in a semifinal on Thursday.

The winner qualifies for the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, next week and will face the Great Lakes champion in the first round on Friday at 1 p.m.

Newby allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks. Alexander Currie tossed two shutout innings of relief and struck out two.

Avrey Cherry and Christopher Reynolds had two hits and two RBIs apiece, while Chase Saunders and Currie both scored twice.

Coeur d’Alene led 5-3 heading into the sixth inning and broke the game open with a three-run rally. Jake Dannenberg drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run and Reynolds delivered a two-run single.

Coeur d’Alene beat Washington 16-6 and Wyoming 13-1 earlier in the week to reach the semifinal.
