Eastern Washington checked in at No. 7 in the American Football Coaches Association FCS preseason top 25, which was released Monday.

The Eagles are a spot ahead of Big Sky Conference rival Weber State, the poll’s eighth-ranked team. Montana is No. 25, and Northern Arizona, Idaho and Southern Utah received votes.

North Dakota State, which has won six of the last seven FCS national titles, is No. 1 in the poll.

Last week, EWU was picked eighth in the STATS FCS preseason poll. Big Sky Conference coaches and media members voted the Eagles No. 1 in the 13-team conference last month.

The Eagles, who return 17 full-time starters from last season’s 22nd-ranked club, open their season Sept. 1 at home against NCAA II power Central Washington.
