Son accused of shooting mother with pellet gun

From staff reports

A violent dispute that investigators say began when a son shot his mother with a pellet rifle sent a family to the hospital early Wednesday.

Spokane Valley police were called to a home in the 10000 block of East Broadway Avenue at about 4 a.m., the Spokane Valley Police Department said in a news release.

After the son allegedly shot his mother, the suspect’s father stabbed him in defense, and the son shot his father in the neck, police said.

All three were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The son, Mason G. Day, 27, was arrested. Police say he has a history of mental illness.

After the shooting and stabbing, Day fled and called police from outside the home, police said.
