Syringa has moved.

The popular sushi restaurant in Coeur d’Alene has relocated from 1401 N. Fourth St. to its new – and much larger – spot at 1710 N. Fourth St., the former site of the now-closed Bistro on Spruce.

Syringa is owned by husband-and-wife restaurateurs Viljo and Autumn Basso, who also own Midtown Bluebird restaurant and the adjacent White Pine at 814 coffee shop.

The Bassos moved to Portland from CdA in 1996, shortly after they met while working at a restaurant. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1990; she’s class of 1993.

From Portland, they moved to Seattle, where she attended the Art Institute and he worked as a chef.

After nearly a decade away from CdA, they returned to the Inland Northwest with their son, Ezra, and opened Syringa in 2006. They also owned and operated the Garnet Café next door for a couple of years before selling it in 2013.

The couple opened Midtown Bluebird in 2016 and White Pine in early 2018.

Syringa’s website still listed the old address as of Dec. 27, a week after relocating. The web site is at www.syringasushi.com.
