Yakima man hit, killed by truck after car breaks down on Interstate 90

A Yakima man died Thursday night when he was hit by a truck on Interstate 90 in Grant County.

Thomas B. Whitlock, 31, was standing in a westbound lane of the freeway next to his vehicle, which had broken down about 7 miles east of the town of George, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A Dodge pickup carrying three people struck Whitlock at about 9:40 p.m. and then stopped in the median, the WSP said.

The WSP said the collision happened because Whitlock had been standing in a lane of travel. No charges were filed against the driver of the pickup, Christopher M. Siemion, 50, of Wenatchee.
