Spokane Transit Authority prepares to build new garage, service building

Spokane Transit Authority has been issued permits to build a $10.7 million garage northwest of the transportation agency’s main offices and existing bus barn.

The one-story building at 1224 N. Cedar St., on the southeast corner of Cedar and Sinto Avenue, will house the agency’s paratransit vehicles. A 20,000-gallon fuel storage tank will be part of the structure, which will contain fueling stations for the transit fleet. With fare retrieval and vehicle washing stations, the new building will do daily service, washing and fueling of STA’s vehicles.

Landscaping and surface parking lots with 87 stalls for employee parking also will be built. Construction of the 69,000-square-foot building requires the vacation of Sharp Avenue.

Construction is anticipated to begin this spring and conclude in summer 2019, according to documents filed with the state.

ALSC Architects, of Spokane, designed the project. Coffman Engineers, of Spokane, did the structural engineering.
