Wrestling regionals: Mead takes 4A title behind Chase Randall and Chase Tebbets

Chase Randall and Chase Tebbets took individual titles to lead Mead to a team championship at the 4A Region 4 wrestling tournament at Pasco HS on Saturday.

Randall (106), a sophomore, defeated Nathaniel Tovar of Pasco 5-4 while junior Tebbets (120) beat Robby Vaughn of Chiawana 5-4. Mead sophomore Ben Voightlaender (182) also took a title, handling Hayden Henry of Hanford 7-3.

Central Valley had a trio of winners: senior Bradley Wiggs (145) won by injury withdrawal, junior Zak Stratton (170) topped Ferris’ Zach Strauss 8-4 and senior John Keiser (220) beat teammate Braxton Mikesell 3-1.

University senior Neftali Lopez (285) defeated Darius Johnson of Gonzaga Prep 5-2 to earn the GSL’s seventh individual title.

UHi tied for third in the team competition with 191.5 points, while CV finished seventh (142), Ferris took ninth (84), Gonzaga Prep was 13th (29) and Lewis and Clark was 14th (27).

Mt. Spokane took the team title with four champions: Jarrett Sharp (113), Blake Haney (126), Jake Howerton (152) and Mason Miethe (195). North Central finished third with three champs: Clayton Gilliam (132), Gavin Gies (138) and Josh Johnson NC (160). Vadim Bobrovnikov (220) gave sixth-place Rogers its sole champion.

East Valley placed second with Winston Scott (195) earning the Knights’ lone individual title. West Valley had two titlists: Gaje Caro (152) and Logan Reser (220). Other champions included Zach Nguyen, Cheney (138), Jake Freeman, Clarkston (145), Kiran Srikanth, Pullman (170) and Boedy Taylor, Cheney (182).

Colville took the team title with four champions: Trent Baun (126), Strann Seeman (132), Trevor Morrison (152) and John. Knight (182). Deer Park placed second and Medical Lake was third.
