News operation gives hospital high marks

U.S. News & World Report has recognized Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital as the second-ranked regional hospital in the state of Washington.

The news organization said it based its ranking on patient experience and safety, quality of nursing care and risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates. In addition, the medical center has been recognized as high performing in eight specialties and procedures: orthopedics, pulmonology, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement and lung cancer surgery.

University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle received the news outlet’s No. 1 ranking for the state.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions for its 2017-18 rankings.

The $17 million was completed in November 2015.
