Top 25 capsules: Carsen Edwards’ 40 leads No. 9 Purdue at Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Carsen Edwards scored a career-high 40 points and Dakota Mathias added 18, leading No. 9 Purdue to a 93-86 win at Illinois.

Edwards was 11 for 19 from the field and 14 for 16 at the line in the first 40-point game for Purdue since Glenn Robinson scored 44 points in a victory against Kansas in the NCAA Tournament in 1994.

Purdue (25-5, 14-3 Big Ten) shot 58.3 percent from the field in its second game since Vincent Edwards was sidelined by a left ankle injury. The Boilermakers also went 11 for 23 from 3-point range.

Leron Black led Illinois (13-17, 3-14) with 28 points, notching his fourth consecutive 20-point game.

No. 11 Cincinnati 77, UConn 52

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Gary Clark scored 10 of his 17 points during Cincinnati’s decisive spurt, and the Bearcats shook off consecutive losses by beating short-handed Connecticut for their fifth straight win over the Huskies.

The Bearcats (24-4, 13-3 American Athletic) recovered from a loss at Houston that ended their 16-game winning streak and a 76-72 loss to Wichita State that snapped their 39-game winning streak at home. They play back-to-back games against conference also-rans before finishing at Wichita State on March 4, a rematch that could decide the league title.

Clark had 10 points as Cincinnati surged ahead 34-19.

Christian Vital scored 15 points and Terry Larrier had 14 for the Huskies (13-15, 6-9), who shot 29.5 percent from the field against the nation’s second-stingiest defense.

No. 14 Arizona 75, Oregon State 65, OT

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Deandre Ayton had 19 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, helping Arizona to the road win without guard Allonzo Trier.

Rawle Alkins had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (22-6, 12-3 Pac-12), and Dusan Ristic scored 14 points.

Trier was declared ineligible by the NCAA after a trace amount of a banned substance was found during a late January drug screening, according to a university statement.

Ethan Thompson had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Beavers (13-14, 5-10). Tres Tinkle added 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

No. 22 Saint Mary’s 75, Pepperdine 61

MORAGA, Calif. – Jordan Ford had 18 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, and Saint Mary’s rolled to the victory.

Calvin Hermanson scored 14 points and Tanner Krebs added 12 for the Gaels (26-4, 15-2 West Coast Conference). Jock Landale scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Ford shot 7 for 11 from the field and 4 for 6 from 3-point range.

Trae Berhow and Knox Hellums each scored 13 points for Pepperdine (4-25, 1-16).

Memphis 91, No. 23 Houston 85

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jimario Rivers and Raynere Thornton each scored 21 points, helping Memphis to its third straight victory.

Rivers also grabbed nine rebounds and Thornton made four 3-pointers for the Tigers (17-11, 8-7 American Athletic Conference).

Rob Gray had 30 points and seven assists for Houston (21-6, 11-4), which entered the Top 25 this week for the first time this season. Armoni Brooks and Corey Davis Jr. each scored 15 points.

The Cougars led 43-37 at halftime, but they shot 32.3 percent from the field in the second half.
