Parkinson Voice Project grant applications due March 2

From local reports

The Parkinson Voice Project is offering grants for organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people with Parkinson’s through its programs.

The grant program will provide professional training and therapy supplies to speech therapy clinics and nonprofit Parkinson’s organizations throughout the United States who want to bring Parkinson Voice Project’s unique speech therapy program to their areas, according to the project’s website.

Eastern Washington University currently offers the project’s programs.

Full eligibility requirements are available at www.parkinsonvoiceproject.org/GrantProgram. The grant application deadline is Friday, March 2.

Parkinson’s patients often lose their ability to speak clearly. It greatly impacts quality of life for everything from talking on the phone to ordering in a restaurant.

“Our goal is to restore the speaking abilities of more people with Parkinson’s. We know Parkinson’s affects more than 1 million people in the U.S., and 89 percent are at high risk of losing the ability to communicate. This grant program will allow us to bring our highly effective speech therapy program to communities in need of these services,” said Parkinson Voice Project’s CEO and founder Samantha Elandary.

Grant recipients will be announced in April 2018 during Parkinson’s Awareness Month.
