Eastern Idaho elementary school placed on lockdown

POCATELLO, Idaho – Authorities in eastern Idaho said an elementary school was placed on lockdown after police investigating a report of an attack on a woman heard a shot inside a residence and found the suspect’s body.

The Idaho State Journal reported that Wilcox Elementary School in Pocatello was placed on lockdown Friday morning.

Pocatello police said officers responded to a report of a woman being battered and that the male suspect fled the scene.

Police said the man was later located at a residence in Pocatello.

Police said they tried to make contact with the man at 9:30 a.m. Friday and heard a single gunshot. Police said officers later found the man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.
