GSL boys: Anton Watson paces Gonzaga Prep with 37 points in win over University

Just as he has done all season, Gonzaga Prep junior Anton Watson showed his ability to take over a game when his team needs him to most.

The Gonzaga commit scored 37 points, including hitting 13 of 17 from the free throw line, and the visiting Bullpups pulled away late to close out University 64-57 on Tuesday in a Greater Spokane League matchup.

Tanner Christensen led U-Hi with 13 points, while Logan Phillips added 10 for the Titans (7-8, 2-7).

Gonzaga Prep (15-0, 9-0), which had outscored league opponents by an average of 22.7 points entering play, led University by just a single point heading into the fourth quarter.

That was as close as the Titans could get to the state’s top-rated team as the Bullpups outscored the hosts 18-12 in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Jacob Parola scored nine points for Gonzaga Prep, while Jamaari Jones added eight.

Mt. Spokane 68, Mead 57: Tyson Degenhart scored 17 points and the Wildcats (11-3, 5-2), rated 14th in state 3A, rode a big first half to a win over the visiting Panthers (3-12, 1-8).

Tyson Rogalette led Mead with 17 points and Jonathan Baird added 11 points.

Spencer Barrera hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Jack McClary chipped in with 11 for Mt. Spokane, which built a 22-point halftime lead.

Rogers 69, North Central 64: Cole Riblet scored 21 points as the Pirates (6-8, 3-4) outlasted the visiting Indians (8-8, 1-6).

North Central pulled to within two points with 20 seconds remaining, but were unable to overtake Rogers.

Evan Nomee had 16 points and Calyn Glover added 13 points for the Pirates.

Leon Sayers and Rafa Stone led North Central with 18 points apiece, while Isaiah Lockett added 10 points.

Central Valley 52, Shadle Park 38: Jase Edwards scored 14 points, Jayce Simmons added 10 and the visiting Bears (7-8, 5-4) rolled past the Highlanders (5-8, 2-5).

Jake Groves led the Highlanders with 13 points.
