Jacinta Buckley scored 22 points with nine rebounds and Lewis and Clark (9-6, 7-2), rated No. 10 in state 4A, survived early pressure and ran away from Ferris (2-13, 1-8) 59-28 in the teams’ Greater Spokane League “Rubber Chicken” rivalry game on Tuesday.

Mayson Younger led Ferris with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The first-quarter pace was frantic, as both teams came out with extra adrenaline from the spirit game in the Arena.

“A little bit of that excitement, just wanting to be out here put on a good show,” said LC coach Gabe Medrano.

Kaylee Bishop drilled a 3-pointer midway through the frame to give Lewis and Clark a 14-12 lead. Jacinta Buckley made a reverse and another layup near the end of the frame and the Tigers led 19-17 after one.

“We talked about coming out and setting the tone with defensive pressure, making sure we’re in their face,” Medrano said. “When you don’t do that, they’re coming to play and they’re going to knock down shots.”

The pace slowed considerably in the second quarter. Buckley hit a short jumper and Emma Maxwell hit a 3 to combine for all of LC’s points. But Ferris couldn’t buy a bucket, and trailed 24-19 at intermission.

Lewis and Clark scored the first nine points of the third quarter to open it up, with Bishop’s 3-pointer making it 14-point game and the Tigers led 37-25 after three.

LC ran away in the fourth outscoring the Saxons 22-3 in the frame as Buckley picked up 10 points.

Mead 59, Mt. Spokane 55: Trailing by 10 points at the half, Mead proved that although they were down against rival Mt. Spokane, they were not out of the game.

Lyndsey Russell scored 18 points and the visiting Panthers roared back to down the Wildcats in the teams’ “Pack the Palace” rivalry game.

The Panthers (6-9, 4-5) held the Wildcats (8-6, 4-3) to just six points in the fourth quarter. The contest proved to be a battle of long-range efforts, as the teams combined to make 20 3-pointers.

Allison Russell pitched in 13 points for the Panthers, while Erica Nessan and Jordynn Hutchinson also finished in double figures for Mead with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Aspyn Adam hit seven triples and led the Wildcats with 22 points.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said Mt. Spokane coach David Wagenblast. “They did a really good job of getting the ball down low late.”

Both teams return to action Friday when Mead hosts Lewis and Clark and Mt. Spokane travels to Rogers.

University 64, Gonzaga Prep 59: Claire Dingus scored 16 points and the Titans (10-5, 7-2) beat the visiting Bullpups (8-7, 4-5). Jasey Ramelow also netted 16 points for U-Hi, hitting three 3-pointers, while Kinsley Barrington added 12. Kerynica Keyes scored a game-high 20 points for Gonzaga Prep, including making five 3-pointers, while Makena Dodson and Mia Scelfo each scored 11 points apiece.

Central Valley 57, Shadle Park 5: Lexie Hull scored 14 points and the Bears (15-0, 9-0) raced past the Highlanders (2-11, 1-6). Tomekia Whitman added 12 points for the Bears, who held the Highlanders to a single point over the first three quarters. The Bears have scored a combined 145 points in their last two league contests.

North Central 65, Rogers 22: Quincy McDeid scored 15 points as the Indians (9-7, 4-3) cruised past the Pirates (1-13, 0-7). Elyce Piper and Adria Blocker also finished in double figures for North Central with 12 and 11 points respectively. Akon Aleu led Rogers with seven points.
