Private plane slides off Bend runway; no injuries

Associated Press

BEND, Ore. – A private jet carrying six people slid off a runway after landing in Bend, Oregon.

Gary Judd, manager of the Bend Municipal Airport, tells The Bulletin newspaper that nobody was injured in Tuesday’s mishap and the Embraer EMB-505 Phenom 300 does not appear damaged.

Judd says the plane skidded at the end of the runway and went about 10 yards off the runway into a dirt bank.

Icy conditions appeared to be the cause, as they were for a series of car crashes and slide-offs early Tuesday in Central Oregon. KTVZ reports that ice formed on many roadways when the temperature dropped following rain showers.

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to at least a half-dozen crashes and slide-offs by 8:30 a.m., including one in which a vehicle lost control and struck a guardrail on Highway 97 between Bend and Redmond.
