Scotchman Peaks winter hiking series starts Saturday

HIKING – The Friends of the Scotchman Peaks 12th winter hike series starts January 20. Join a guided winter hike in the Scotchman Peaks proposed wilderness areas. The hikes range in difficulty from easy to very strenuous. FSPW Executive Director Phil Hough will lead the season’s first hike, Saturday.

Saturday’s moderate hike will take participants from Lightning Creek to Regal Creek Trail.

“In the past, we’ve had winter hikes for just about every level of fitness,” Hough said in a news release. “From a walk along Lightning Creek road – groomed in the winter – to late winter climbs to Scotchman and Star Peak. Those are a little more ambitious.”

Other upcoming hikes will include a trip to the east end of Pilik Ridge on January 27 and two hikes into Ross Creek.
