Women’s Top 25 Capsules: Kalani Brown, No. 4 Baylor top Kansas State

WACO, Texas – Kalani Brown had 33 points and 19 rebounds, Lauren Cox scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds and No. 4 Baylor stretched its winning streak to 14 games with a 75-50 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.

The Lady Bears (17-1, 7-0 Big 12) and their big post players overcame a sluggish start, going ahead to stay with a 10-0 run to end the first quarter. Baylor also scored the final 10 points before halftime.

Kayla Goth had 22 points for Kansas State (11-8, 3-5), which has lost 28 straight games against Baylor and was outrebounded 69-24.

(9) Texas 90, Texas Tech 39

LUBBOCK, Texas – Ariel Atkins scored 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Brooke McCarty had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists to help Texas beat Texas Tech.

The 51-point margin of victory was Texas’ largest in a Big 12 game, surpassing its previous high of 43 points, set in an 83-40 win over Colorado on Feb. 23, 2005. It was Texas Tech’s lowest scoring output since a 66-36 loss to Baylor on Feb. 13, 2016.

The Longhorns (15-3, 6-1) scored the first seven second-quarter points to take a 26-13 lead. Brielle Blaire answered with a 3-pointer to pull Texas Tech (7-12, 1-7) within 10 points, but the Red Raiders missed 13 of their next 14 field-goal attempts as Texas scored 30 of the next 33 points to make it 56-19 midway through the third quarter.

Blaire and Erin Degrate led Texas Tech with seven points apiece.

(17) West Virginia 69, Iowa St. 59

AMES, Iowa – Teana Muldrow had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and West Virginia pulled away in the second quarter and cruised past Iowa State to snap a two-game skid.

The Mountaineers (16-4, 4-4 Big 12 Conference) rebounded from a six-point loss at No. 24 Oklahoma State on Wednesday, and a 76-74 home loss to TCU on Jan. 13. Iowa State (8-11, 2-6) has lost six of its last seven games.

Muldrow was 10-of-19 shooting, and the senior forward collected her 10th double-double of the season. Chania Ray added 14 points, and Naomi Davenport had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Emily Durr had 15 points for the Cyclones.

(19) Michigan 86, Illinois 42

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Katelynn Flaherty scored 27 points, Hailey Brown and Hallie Thome had double-doubles and Michigan continued the best start in school history with a win over Illinois.

Brown had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Thome had 13 points and 11 rebounds to give the Wolverines (17-4, 6-2 Big Ten) two players with double-doubles in the same game since November of 2014. Nicole Munger added 14 points.

After the Illini (9-12, 0-7) scored the first five points of the game, Michigan went on a 21-2 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers by Flaherty, who was 5 of 8 behind the arc. It was 24-12 after one quarter and 37-24 at the half before a 17-2 burst to open the third quarter.

(23) Green Bay 81, Oakland 48

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Jessica Lindstrom scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Green Bay used a 28-3 run in the second half to roll past Oakland for its sixth straight win.

Allie LeClaire added 12 points for the Phoenix (17-2, 7-1 Horizon League).

During the game-changing 8 1/2-minute span, Green Bay went 10 for 12, while the Grizzlies (10-9, 3-5) were 1 for 11.

Sha’Keya Graves had 16 points for Oakland.

(24) Oklahoma St. 70, Oklahoma 67

NORMAN, Okla. – Kaylee Jensen scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her 37th career double-double and Oklahoma State beat Oklahoma to claim a Bedlam sweep.

Oklahoma missed a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left and Jensen grabbed the rebound, but she was called for travelling. The Sooners turned it over on an inbound pass and freshman Braxtin Miller made two free throws with 1 second left.

Miller finished with 13 points for Oklahoma State (14-4, 5-2 Big 12). Jensen, averaging 22.2 points and 12.2 rebounds in conference play, was 10 of 20 from the field and 7 of 9 at the line.

Freshman Shaina Pellington had a season-high 26 points with six rebounds and three assists for Oklahoma (9-10, 4-4).
