The search for dry rock can take adventurous climbers far and wide.

This year, Dana Walters and several other Spokane-area climbers spent roughly three weeks in Mexico pulling hard on limestone. Walters and his group climbed in two areas, Potrero Chico and El Salto. Both climbing spots are outside the city of Monterrey in the Mexican state of Nuevo León.

“The locals around the climbing areas love the climbers and there is a very strong local climbing scene in Monterrey,” Walters said in a text message. “In addition to the areas we went to there are several other big limestone formations with several lifetimes worth of development potential.”

Walters got back to Spokane on Jan. 6. He was joined on the trip by Zack Turner, Ariana Kamaliazad, Brian Kinder, Madison Ellington, Cameron Mitchell and Serra Barron.
