Proud to be a liberal

I had the displeasure of seeing a Cathy McMorris Rodgers TV ad last night. Spoiler alert: Her message was rife with dishonest assertions.

Despite her smile and pleasant demeanor, she is clearly no friend to the people of Eastern Washington whom she is supposed to serve. She serves only at the beck and call of the very wealthy donor class. Your interests are not her interests unless they are the interest of her billionaire donors whom she voted a gigantic tax cut and then voted to rob Social Security and Medicare to pay for it.

Throughout the ad, she repeatedly vilified liberals.

Well, Cathy, if by “liberal” you mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people - their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties - someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what you mean by a “liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “liberal.”
