From staff reports

A Spokane County Jail inmate died Tuesday, the sixth inmate who has died at the jail in the past 13 months.

The inmate was found dead in his cell at 1:10 p.m. when inmates were being released from their cells for recreational time, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Major Crimes detectives are investigating the incident. Name of the inmate was not released Tuesday.

Three of the six deaths in the past 13 months were hangings. Jail officials announced last month that inmates would soon no longer be given bed sheets in hopes of preventing suicides.
