National forest campfire restrictions in place
Campfire restrictions in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest went into effect Friday because of increasing fire danger.
According to a news release from the national forest, campfires are prohibited in all areas except:
Developed campgrounds – typically those with amenities like metal fire rings, picnic tables and outhouses.
Other special sites like group camps and summer homes under permit.
Most parts of the Glacier Peak, Chelan-Sawtooth, Alpine Lakes, Henry M. Jackson, Goat Rocks, Norse Peak and William O. Douglas Wilderness Areas.
Some areas within the wilderness areas have year-round campfire restrictions, particularly the Alpine Lakes and Henry M. Jackson Wildernesses.
Propane stoves and solid fuel fires with wicks are still allowed.
