Demi Lovato’s reported overdose was meth, not heroin as previously thought, new reports say

Lovato has been an open book since she announced in 2010 that she was checking into a rehabilitation center to deal with an eating disorder, self-mutilation and other issues. Demi Lovato is awake and responsive, but the reason for the “Sober” singer’s Tuesday morning collapse, which brought emergency responders to her Los Angeles home, remains a mystery.

TMZ initially cited law enforcement sources speculating the singer had been treated with Narcan following a possible heroin overdose. Multiple reports, including a follow-up from TMZ, now claim that heroin wasn’t the reason for the 25-year-old pop star’s loss of conscience. Narcan is typically used to combat opioid overdoses.

TheBlast.com reported Wednesday that “a nurse at the hospital told police Lovato was using some type of methamphetamine in the time leading up to the incident.”

The site also claims that police who joined paramedics at Lovato’s residence took photos of what they believe to be drug paraphernalia, though they didn’t remove anything from the home.

Lovato has struggled with addiction, but claimed to have been clean for six years before seeming to admit to a relapse in her new song “Sober,” which includes the lyrics “I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore” and “I promise I’ll get help.”

ET online reported Wednesday Lovato’s loved ones are onboard with that plan.

“Her family is going to do everything in their power to help get Demi back on track and are making plans to get her straight into rehab,” a source told that outlet.

Her reps have not addressed allegations of drug use, but they did release a statement on Tuesday assuring fans she was on the mend.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” according to the statement. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”
