Fire north of Reardan causes level three evacuations

A fire sparked north of Reardan on Tuesday afternoon, burning 70 acres and causing mandatory evacuations.

Veronica Randall, intelligence coordinator at the Northeast Washington Interagency Communication Center, said the fire began 9 miles from Reardan and was called in at 4:41 p.m. She said the fire was burning west of state Highway 231 and rendered Moore Road impassible.

She said authorities called for evacuations minutes after the fire was called in.

At 9 p.m. Sunday, Randall said no injuries or structure losses had been reported and firefighters had trailed 20 percent of the blaze. Rural fire departments, the Department of Natural Resources and a few engines from the Bureau of Land Management responded and 14 aircraft, a 10-person inmate crew, two bulldozers and local agencies were fighting the fire.

According to Department of Natural Resource tweets, Level 3 evacuations were established for anyone living north of Reardan, near Moore Road and Highway 231.
